The presentation will discuss the 2015 ETSI NFV-ONF sponsored proof-of-concept (POC) trial on SDN-Controlled VNF Forwarding Graphs conducted by nine vendors.
The presentation will provide an overview of the use cases of VNF Forwarding Graphs – as outlined in the ETSI GS NFV 001 v1.1.1 (13-10) document, and of how SDN can be used to drive arbitrarily defined individual traffic flows through a series of virtual network functions (VNFs). It will discuss the information model and APIs to express service function chains; the SDN-based technologies to dynamically insert, change or delete service functions (VNFs) for any flows; the considerations of using overlay (e.g., VXLAN) and non-overlay (e.g., OpenFlow) technologies to achieve service function chaining. The rest of the presentation will focus on the lessons learned from the POC trial.
