NSH (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-sfc-nsh/) is a standard IETF is drafting, it is especially introduced to address SFC (Service Function Chaining) in SDN/NFV, VxLAN-gpe is a proposed encapsulation protocol, but in data center, SFF (Service Function Forwarder) and Classifier are on the same ovs node, VxLAN-gpe can’t handle such cases, https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-sfc-nsh/ also suggested another encapsulation type Eth+NSH+overload, which can reduce unnecessary encapsulation & decapsulation and significantly improve performance. My presentation will show all the details about how NSH and SFC work together in data center and demo it by using Eth+NSH and VxLAN-gpe+NSH hybrid mode, this demo will use the almost same network topology setup as OVSDB+SFC+Openstack+tacker integration used except VM isn’t be started by Openstack and it is a docker container, this demo also shows typical Openflow multi-writer issue and indicates why we need a solution to Openflow mulit-writer issue.
