What is SDN? For KREONET, the representative advanced research network in Korea, SDN is an innovative wide-area network environment for time-to-research and time-to-collaboration, providing new user experience, higher security and deterministic network performance, based on user-oriented dynamic, flexible and programmable networks. We launched the first-phase KREONET-S project to achieve this objective in 2015 and it will go on until 2017, leading to the first nation-wide production & public SD-WAN services in Korea. In this talk, we will introduce three main things focusing on why the new networks and services are demanded, how SD-WAN infrastructure and distributed control platform are designed and deployed, and what applications and services are being developed on KREONET-S. Plus, this talk presents principal SD-WAN service scenarios of KREONET-S in three main categories.
