ONOS southbound interface standardizes how the ONOS Distributed Core connects to physical network devices. A variety of protocols is needed to manage and configure these devices; NETCONF, with the help of YANG, has become a standard for many network elements using XML and YANG modelling capabilities. This presentation will detail the current NETCONF and YANG subsystem implemented for the ONOS southbound interface and how it can be used by ONOS northbound interface, apps and CLI to configure and manage a physical device through ONOS provider and driver systems. The presentation will also discuss some issues encountered during implementation. An example of specific device configuration will be shown using NETCONF with YANG models. The example will demonstrate how ONOS, through this addition, can integrate more devices to better shape the future of SDN and open computer networks.
