Keynote: All Together Now: Integrating Networking Open Source Projects - Jonathan Bryce, OpenStack; Neela Jacques, OpenDaylight; Heather Kirksey, OPNFV; Guru Parulkar, ONOS; and Jim Zemlin, The Linux Foundation (Moderator)
The networking industry has seen a growing number of open source projects emerge over the past few years -- OpenStack, OpenDaylight, ONOS, OPNFV, among others -- to apply open source software development against the thorniest challenges in traditional networking technology stacks. Each project has specific areas of focus, but over time, are becoming more deeply integrated as they cross new industry boundaries. And as more users like AT&T, Fujitsu and Huawei require use cases that cross projects, integration between them becomes more critical. Join us to learn from leaders of each project as they discuss key learnings from the past year on how and where they collaborate, integrate, and compete across the industry.

Plenary Session: SDN and NFV – Stepping Stones to the Telco Cloud | Prodip Sen, HPE
When NFV was initiated as a major industry initiative a few years ago, initial activities largely ignored SDN - except as a use case of another virtual function. Recently there has been a growing realization that using the SDN approach is essential to reaping all the benefits of the NFV. Also there has been progress in using open source software in NFV, especially with the use of OpenStack in various commercial offerings (e.g. from HPE), and the launch of OPNFV as an open source project focused on NFV, which uses both OpenStack and ODL and other open source software. For most of the above SDN is viewed as a support technology for NFV. This talk goes beyond that and discusses a couple of  use cases we have implemented for Communication Service Providers (CSPs) in the mobile network, where both SDN and NFV are required and each provide distinctive value. It will cover the business value proposition behind these, based on deployments and strong interest from CSPs. We will then discuss how we intend to evolve the implementations to use open source in an integral way. We will end with a view of how the transformation of CSPs networks will really be achieved.

Keynote: Scaling the S in SDN - Albert Greenberg, Director Azure Networking and Distinguished Engineer, Microsoft
In the past several years, the cloud network was transformed and rebuilt in software using SDN – Microsoft Azure has been built on these technologies, enabling greater flexibility and programmability than ever before. Our focus today is on scale, density, and utilization of the programmable network, pushing our infrastructure to meet the demands of today’s massive cloud environments with millions of servers, and new cloud-based workloads.

We introduce the Virtual Filtering Platform, Azure’s programmable dataplane, in which we’ve scaled up the match action table model to support modern high density servers with >40Gbps of bandwidth, while providing the programmability for our many controllers and SDN applications to create new virtual networking functions. We are announcing that VFP, which has been key to scaling our infrastructure, will be made available to the public with Windows Server 2016 to support high density private cloud environments using Azure Stack on premises.

As an example of how new workloads push us to scale further, much of the industry is moving to containerized workloads and microservice architectures. To support this, we have built native integration to extend Azure virtual networking features directly to containers, across Linux and Windows, using our flexible SDN stack. We announce and demo several of these new networking features, as part of the Azure Container Service, allowing customers to deploy and manage containers using several popular open source container orchestrators.
