Alan Cohen is the Chief Commercial of Illumio, a breakthrough cybersecurity company that is singularly focused on reducing the “attack surface” of threats in data center and public cloud computing environments.  The company is an industry leader in a brand new category termed Adaptive Security by industry research firm Gartner.  Only one year in the market, Illumio has won leading customers including Morgan Stanley, NTT, Salesforce, King Entertainment, Netsuite and Plantronics.  The company has raised $142M in 27 months from noted investors Andreessen Horowitz, Accel, and Blackrock as well as other investors and industry executives including John Thompson, CEO of General Instruments and Chairman of the Board of Microsoft, Marc Benioff, Founder and CEO of Salesforce, and Jerry Yang, Founder of Yahoo. 


Cohen is a well known company builder and industry commentator.  His past two startups, Airespace and Nicira, were the industry leaders in Centralized WLANs and Network Virtualization, and returned $1.7B to investors.  Earlier professional accomplishments included launching IBM in eCommerce with the pioneering IBM World Distributor managed solution and Net.Commerce software suite.  A well-known public presenter and industry participant, Cohen frequently speaks at technology and business events and has been quoted and profiled in hundreds of articles and books, including New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Fortune as well as Tom Friedman’s The Lexus and the Olive Tree and The World is Flat.  


Cohen sit on the board of Illumio as well as the advisory boards of Vera, Netskope, HighFive, Mist, and Arkin.  Previously he was on the Board of General Growth Properties (NYSE:GGP), where he chaired the compensation committee and was a member of the nominating and governance committee.


Originally from New York, Cohen lives in Silicon Valley with his wife and family.  He graduated with a BA from SUNY Buffalo, an MA from American University, and a MBA from NYU.
